The drive leaving Colville, across the Columbia River proved to be a little more scenic than the leg from Spokane to Colville. We left out of Colville in a misty rain. Thank goodness for good gear. The drive was beautiful across the Kettle Mountain RAnge. We stopped at the little town of Republic and had lunch ant the Sportsman's Roost. Great little local spot.
In this part of the country the road, follow the valleys and rivers, which makes for a beautiful drive. As we drove out of Republic, we started seeing orchards and farms. Absolutely gorgeous country.
We had made reservations at a lodge in the Winthrop area that we found on the internet. It looked like the best option based on what was available in the area. My what a well kept secret. The Sun Mountain Lodge It is about 6 miles of the beaten path from Hwy 20. It overlooks the Methow Valley. It is truly an amazing, quite, tranquil place.
Very nice rooms, Contempary, yet rustic. The restaurant is 5 star, exquisite cuisine and service with a view of the valley. I had the rack of lamb and my husband had the duck. Both were great.
Hiking trails, lakes, rivers, horseback riding. pools, hot tubs. There are no TV's in the rooms. Classical music is piped into the rooms. You control the speakers, turn them off if you want. WiFi in the rooms. Large whirlpool tub in some rooms.
Everything about the place was top notch. They apparently have a very nice spa, but they were booked. It is suggested that you make spa appointments ahead of time. We got up early and hiked on Monday. We saw deer all over the area. We only wished we had planned time to spend another day. WE will definitely be back. Great place to relax and unwind, because there is nothing else to do.
