San Francisco - I Love This Town

Gallery Photo: Union Square - Lounging & ParkingFrancisco, California late July 2008.  I had two days worth of conferences to attend for work, and my wife tagged along for the ride.   We took a few extra days after the conferences to explore the San Francisco area - and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Most of the story can be told in pictures, so you'll get most of the good information by viewing the photo gallery for each post.  Since I got kind of camera crazy on this trip and was snapping photos from both my Canon Digital Elph and my mobile phone, most of this adventure will be topical rather than time sensitive.  With so much to do in San Francisco, we visited a few places more than once - as exampled in this first post and photo set. Gallery Photo: Mei Wo Florist

My wife and I absoluted adore the San Francisco area and would encourage anyone to take the opportunity to visit the area.  More on that later though... off you go to the photo gallery.

More on some of the areas we liked below:

North Beach

If you love friendly urban neighborhoods with great restaurants, bars, caffes, and night clubs, together with interesting one-of-a-kind shops, then you will love North Beach. Lots of history and culture here - Little Italy, great food, celebrities, the original beat scene where such famous authors, actors and musicians such as Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Alan Ginsberg, Marilyn Monroe, Clint Eastwood, and Jerry Garcia hung out, worked, played, wrote and created beautiful works of Art in generations past.  I really liked the North Beach area.

I stopped in at the old 'Beat Museum' but didn't take the tour - our oldest daughter would up with a really psychedelic skirt from the Beat Museum, my wife some catchy and creative postcards now hanging on our wall as artwork - but I had to leave without one of the orginal pieces of Jerry Garcia artwork on display and for sale in the store portion of the museum.  I could have spent much more time in this area of the city if my wife would have let me.
