Father and Son Alaska Tour

The Return from Prudhoe

We started the day with the Arctic Tour.  Here is a picture of the bay looking out to the Arctic Ocean.  Due to recent Polar Bear activity the tour would not allow you out of the bus to step in the water.  Everyone was disapointed.  While up there you've gone this far you might as well take the tour but don't get too excited about it.  Deadhorse isn't much to see.  We are glad we did it but the best scenary is from Coldfoot to about 20 miles north of the Brooks Range

The skies provided some relief today so we were able to make much better time and stop and take some decent pictures.

The northern part of this drive is tundra very beautiful in its own way but a little like Kansas.  A bit redundant.

We caught these two Musk Ox butting heads just 20 yards off the road

They remind me of "Cousin It" from the Addams Family.  I'll bet if you shaved them nothing would be left but horns and hooves.

Next I noticed some caribou crossing a small river so I stopped my father and we waited.  They came quite close.

Many hunters were seen along the way ambushing the caribou in a similar way.  No firearms are alowed within five miles of the pipeline.  Bow hunting only.

Antigun Pass in the Brooks range from the north.

Since the roads were dryer we made much better time but I fuel consumption increased.  Even with the additional fuel in our jerry cans we arrived in Coldfoot on vapors.
